Fort O’Brien School in Machiasport is a PreK–8 elementary school serving students along the beautiful coast of Washington County, Maine. Our community is rooted in the Town of Machiasport, which is comprised of five villages: Machiasport Village, Starboard, Bucks Harbor, East Side, and Larrabee. The town’s economy is strongly connected to the sea, with fishing—particularly lobster and scallops—and clamming serving as primary sources of income for many families.

Fort O’Brien students are supported by strong educational pathways beyond elementary school, with opportunities to attend Washington Academy in East Machias or Machias Memorial High School in Machias for their secondary education. We are also fortunate to be located near the University of Maine at Machias and its Lifelong Learning Center, providing valuable educational and community resources. In addition to academics, our students participate in a robust sports program, and we take great pride in our teams and their accomplishments.
